If you've never experienced Christmas in a Latin American country, then I strongly suggest you jump on a plane to Sucre in December. This city was bright, vibrant and picturesque as well as strongly traditional.
On Christmas Eve, at about 8pm, the entire city gathers to march and dance as a processional leads a display of the nativity to the major cathedral. When I say the entire city, if you're not there you're sure to be woken by the flutes, drums and singing.
When the city arrives en masse (excuse the pun) to the cathedral, the Midnight Mass is undertaken and the city celebrates into the night.
Christmas in Sucre should very much be at the top of the "Top Ten Things to Do Before You Die" list.
